28 Weeks

It's STILL a boy...I guess no girl for me this time.

Picture of his face. You can see his head and the shadow of the eye sockets.

Look at those feet!

Looks like the baby is sticking his tongue out.

I had my 28 week appointment on Wednesday, October 13th. We had a growth ultrasound. Baby Benson's heartbeat was 129, but they said that it was in the normal range. We got to see his heart beating also. Gotta love today's technology. He also weighs 2 pounds 12 ounces!
After we had our pictures done, we met with my PA. We didn't have much to discuss. I have been having some "issues" with my sugar levels at times, mostly in the evening and depends on what I eat, that they like to spike up high. She just told me to carefully monitor my diet. She also said it was time to Count the Kicks. They suggest that starting with week 28, that you pick a time of the day
when baby is active, and see how long it takes him to make 10 movements. So I've been doing that. Baby Benson's usually most active in the afternoon. My blood pressure has been very well, and I have only gained a total of 6 pounds so far, so that's great for me. Less I have to take off afterwards. I also had to receive my 2nd RhoGam shot, because back in July, I found out that I was Rh negative, which means that the mother's body may see the baby as an intruder, and problems can occur. Otherwise, things have been going pretty smooth. I've been feeling great. My doctor now has me coming in every 2 weeks, so my next appointment will be October 27th, for a quick OB appointment, then again on November 10th, I'll have another ultrasound and stuff.

Recent...

Trying to get things done for the baby. The progress of the room is at a slow crawl, but we did get our crib put together, and just recently I purchased my bedding and room decor. I'm pretty excited. Baby Benson has been moving/kicking like crazy. I just love the feeling. It's really neat to watch my tummy twitch and move. Next week, I'll be starting my third trimester. Kurt and I have an appointment on Wednesday the 13th, and we'll have a growth ultrasound to see how big the baby has gotten over the past 8 weeks. Then after that appointment I'll be going in every 2 weeks.. I've been trying to get things in order for work, insurance, and also been looking at daycare, which I think will be my biggest anxiety.

24 weeks down

We had our 24 week OB appointment today. It was probably one of our quickest appointments because it was just to hear the baby's heartbeat. My doctor had a heck of a time finding Baby Benson, but finally found him up high by my ribs basically. His heartbeat was in the 150's, which she said was great. Next month we are scheduled for a growth ultrasound to see how big Baby Benson has gotten, so that will be pretty exciting. My doctor also mentioned that after next month, I'll be coming in every 2 weeks for appointment. That really hit hard, because I know soon after that, I'll be having weekly appointments, and before ya know it, the baby will be here!

My diabetes is doing pretty well. Last month I went to a dietician, and we discussed counting carbs. I'm not a big stickler about it, but I'm more conscious of how many carbs I'm intaking each day. It does seem to help because my sugar levels are "pretty stable" for the most part, and I'm having less freqent low sugar spells. So my doctor kept my medicine the same dosage.

20 Week Checkup

Baby Benson's Profile

Look at those cute little feet!

It's a Boy!!!

It's a boy! You can actually see his femur bones.
I had my 20 week checkup on Thursday, August 19, 2010. Everything is going well. I had another ultrasound done. The baby is hiding right behind my belly button. We found out what the sex is and we are having a little boy!!! His heartbeat was 148 bpm. The sonographer also told us Baby Benson weighs about 14 ounces. Kurt and I met another one of the perinatologists, Dr. Neil Mandsanger. He looked over the ultrasound images and told us everything looks great. Amy, who is my PA, also told me I was doing pretty good with my weight, I've only gained a total of 5 lbs. We are still messing around with my diabetes medication. I've been having a lot of low blood sugar dips, so now I am taking a little less in the morning. I've also been monitoring my carb intake because I know that will elevate my glucose levels. My next appointment is set for September 15th. I'll be 24 weeks along, and at that appointment we will be hopefully be listening to the baby's heartbeat via Doppler.

17 Weeks and counting

Today was my 2nd OB appointment. I can't believe that I'm 17 weeks along already. We went in to listen to the baby's heartbeat by doppler. My physician and I talked about my diabetes mostly. The last month has been a rollercoaster with my new diabetic medicine. I watch it carefully, but I seem to have mostly low sugar spells around the lunch hour. My physician put in a referral to a dietician so they could help me manage/educate me about my nutrition and pregnancy. So I have yet to hear from them.

When it came time to listen to the heartbeat, Kurt's been hiping they'd do an ultrasound so we could see our little peanut and maybe catch a glimpse of the gender. I kept telling him we would do the doppler and just listen. The doctor searched around my lower abdomen, but couldn't find anything. I grew a little nervous, but she told Kurt it was his lucky day-he'd get his ultrasound. So we went back into the room, and the sonographer found the baby right away - up closer to my belly button. The heartbeat was music to my ears at 156 bpm. The lady poked and prodded my belly to see if we could get a peek and of course you could tell it was Kurt's child because it was stubborn and wouldn't cooperate very well. She didn sneak one peek and it looked like a little turtle. The sonographer said if whe had to guess by the picture, she'd have to say it's a boy. I told Kurt not to hold his breath because it could turn around and be a girl. My next appointment is August 19th (just before Farm Festival) and I will have a detailed ultrasound to take a better look at the baby, the organs, and probably get a better look at gender.

The contruction of the baby room is getting closer to finish. We have it painted and the paneling is put up. We still have to do the trim. Then it will be furniture time. That's what makes me super excited. I'll post pictures of it later.

Hope all is well with everybody and i'll post more soon!!!!!

Baby Benson

Meet Baby Benson.....Due on January 10, 2011. I officially found out on June 16th, but the ultrasound pictures are from my first visit to a perinatologist on June 28, 2010. My next OB/GYN appointment will be on July 26, 2010, and Kurt and I will be able to listen to the heart beat. We are super excited parents-to-be. We've already started cleaning out our room for the baby, and picked out paint. The only color we could agree on was a dark orange called Dark Palamino.
